I was quoted (exact same car as you) for $600 bucks for an SCT Chip and custom dyno tune. I plan to get 2-3 tunes for it, so mine will personally be a bit extra (performance, fuel economy, emissions).

But yea.. $600 at a place that specializes in Mustangs.

Make SURE you find a place that specializes in Mustangs, SCT is a beast to tune... So I've been told by professional tuners (he normally used Hypertech and Hondata). Anywhere that specializes in Mustangs will know the tricks to unlocking your horsepower with an SCT Tune.

The tune I'm talking about isn't just the SCT Xcalibrator. Tuning a car yourself using pre-made files is fine but I don't think SCT makes one for the 94-95. I really don't think I've seen much of anything for the 94/95 computer that is just pre-loaded tunes to load up.

The price I was speaking of was for a custom chip made at the Dyno shop for my car with my setup tuned by a professional and normally takes 2-3 hours on a dyno (I've seen upwards of 8 hours for a supercharged 94/95).

They put it on the Dyno and check air/fuel, spark curves, injector duty cycles, fuel curves, everything... Then tune it through the RPM band to make the most power. I want to say the local guy I go to around here (the guy that does Hypertechs) said SCT has something like 150+ variables at 500 RPM increments... So that gives a TON of adjustability and tunability.

Yea, if you can find a plug and play it'll work, but to get the most out of it get it on a dyno.

Here's just an example from the SCT Pro Racer Package (which is their do it yourself tune set up like a shop would use).

http://sctflash.com/images/pr_ss_1_LRG.gif

Notice the RPM intervals, load indexs, and TONS of numbers... And that's just ONE table under the spark plugs.

That gives you an idea of the variables which can be tuned to get the most out of your car. Custom tunes are definately the best.

And Tom, you have an 88? You got lucky, the 94/95 computers suck according to most tuners.

I was told by the SCT guys the "hardest thing to tune in the world is a 94/95 Mustang GT with a supercharger."

It's not going to be the difference between breaking your neck and grandma driving... However gains of 10-20 HP are common, and I've heard of gains of upwards of 40 HP. It depends on how many modifications you have made to the car. The stock computer is set up for stock items, each item you replace the computer doesn't exactly take advantage of it (the stock 94/95s computer also run leaner than optimal from what I've seen/heard from people).

One thing I will say is your engine will run much better. Air/Fuel Ratios will be optimized and they can change your Rev limiter and throw in a two step limiter for when the clutch is in. Spark curves and timing will be optimized.

It's especially worth it if you have new injectors, however I'd wait on that tune until you finish everything you want to do motorwise for now.
