I like auto because its nice and simple, and my right arm is permanently sprained so shifting is REALLY hard for me, to bad I dont live in Japan.

But I like manual cause its the underdog in America, its better on mpg, its better for acceleration [w/ automatic closing in on that specialty], and it just completes the look and feel of any muscle car.

Which is why I bought my first car [my first purchased car] and its a manual, I guess my messed up arm is gonna have to take it like a man and learn how to drive a stick shift :P

oh yeah; and that clutch thing is pretty intimidating, I can tell I will not enjoy learning how to drive my car like a pro.

to me, automatics take away from the whole driving expierence. its like a passenger with a steerign wheel.

drag racing wise, an automatic can turn more consistant times, which would be better for the bracket racers.

but it isnt a stick.

-The driveability of a manual makes it much more enjoyable.

-Being able to choose what gear I want, at whatever speed I want, is great. If I want to cruise at 40 MPH in 5th gear, I can. I don't have something else making that decision for me.

-I like being able to squeeze just a bit more power from the gears just up to the red-line

-I feel more comfortable with my right hand on the shifter and my left on the steering wheel, I don't know why.

-Now... I won't deny that it can be kind of annoying to be constantly shifting between 1st and 2nd if you are in traffic or stuck on a street with red lights on every corner.

-Driving an automatic is just no fun.

The Pro's outweight the Con's. I'll always choose a Manual over an Automatic.

My vert is a stick. They are more fun to drive because of all the above mentioned reasons.

My mach was an auto. I like the auto as a daily driver, in fact the vert satisfies my sport car needs, but I think when I get me 66 going I will change it to an auto.

The vert will be my last 5 speed, it may be more fun but driving in a automatic is so much more enjoyable.

Plus it is really hard to drink a soda while shifting a stick shift.

Street cars who want to go fast convert their auto’s to 5 speeds.
Fast cars who want to go really fast convert them back to autos.

It’s a vicious cycle.

I have a stick... lol... No seriously I love it, I love the control it gives me and the ability to be in the gear I want. It just feels right, fun factor is a plus, traffic sux, I wouldn't trade it for an auto tho. Second gear does piss me off sometimes tho..

Just shift with your left hand, I have done it while eating and driving. I just recommend an alignment before attempting.

Well stick is fun but after owning a well built auto Im turned. I can drive my auto just like a manual, If I dont want I can drive like an auto. I too can drive in an gear I want, shift where I want leave the line @ rpms I want. Im more consistant and NEVER miss a gear. So unless you just have to ruin your clutch by doin a 5000 rpm dump (while coasting) then I guess I win!

I have never owned an automatic. My wife has an automatic that I drive more than my Mustang but I myself have never owned anything but standards.
I can't stand not being in control of the car. I mean, you don't let the car decide when to turn or when to stop right? So why let it decide when to shift???

Plus, the experience of driving just about any 5 speed is just plain ol' fun!

Do you have a Shift kit/Manual valve body???

I have rode in a Mustang with a nice shift kit before and it felt real solid. That's why I always tell the auto guys that should be one of their first mods.

I have a Alison automatic in my duramax, with manual paddle shifting. I guess technically I can choose any gear I want, but it's not even close to the same. Manual is the best. So much fun and makes you have to perfect one more thing as a driver. It's also fun knowing I can hop into any car and drive the piss outta it!

Personally you may find it depends on where you live and what your personality is, if you are stuck in traffic alot the auto is better, if you are agressive and enjoy pulling the gears than go for the stick, I find shifting is tiring after awhile, the auto/stick in my Infiniti is very nice and the automatic behind 550 hp convt is great for drag racing
