Default Any ideas for my transmission troubles?

Ok so after doing engine rebuild and complete brakes replacement I go for a test drive.. get around the block put it in reverse.. goes forward...put it in park so I can figure out what to do.. goes forward in park too! so.. this isn't good for me in which case I need to find a replacement transmission for a 5.0 1986 aod any suggestions on a low priced location or if switching to manual will be better price/preformance? price first thats my first problem right now don't have long to use the car I'm being lent. all help appreciated greatly!

You sure it's the transmission?

Did it go forward in any gear?

Could your shift lever be off? Neutral park switch (range sensor)?

Default Transmission Problems

You didn't state what model car you had so it's just a guess but it seems to me that you have the transmission hooked up incorrectly. The electronics should go together only one way but I believe the shifter can be reversed on the transmission linkage. Check it out.

Does the car start in any other gears besides park & neutral?

I'll check when I get back to the house but if it does what does it mean? I'm not exactly transmission knowledgeable but can get around and do the work when it comes to it.

that means the nuetral safty swith is not hooked up or it is bad, you should only be able to start it in park or neutral. sounds like the linkage is messed up or it moved out of its original spot
