Default Anybody running a turbo setup?

I have a 93 notch and I have been researching turbo kits for quite a while for mustangs and wanting to put one on mine soon. I am familiar with them and have built one for a GSR(when I was younger) and it boosted oh so well. Anyways I am wondering if anyone is running one on their mustang? What brand did you purchase, install problems/issues, dyno numbers, maybe some pics! just basically any info on the setup.
I have gone on turbomustangs.com and went to their forums and by reading it seems hard to get an honest opinion from someone.
Any input greatly appreciated!!

Earlier in the summer I installed a Hellion 62-1 Big Shaft Turbo kit on my 92 GT.

BEST MONEY I'VE EVER SPENT !!!

Let me put it you another way

Heads, cam intake, and lock stock bottom end

62mm Turbonetics, with Hellions stainless kit

7 psi

Not tuned ( have a chip, in the middle of tuning now )

First pull on dyno

500rwhp
560tq

Need I say more

My kit is capable of 17-19 psi. Once my bottom end is in ( Sportsman block ) I can go to town.

I highly recommend Hellion. The kit was complete. Everything, including high flow intercooler, exhaust, maf, injectors, every nut & bolt needed, and no hacking or cutting. Everything fit great, and all you need after is a tune!

I am building a 331 turbo currently. From what I have found out its a good idea to put in a new cam with a higher lobe seperation. Closer the lobe seperation hte more over lap on the valves and basically its a waste of boost cause you are allowing boost to blow right out the exhaust valve. I got a custom grind from comp cam, but the lobe seperation is 114.

Also if your looking to build your own setup. This guy make some of the best hot side parts for the most reasonable price.

B&G Turbo Headers : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce

lastly depending on your setup you may want your exhaust turbine to be fairly large, specially for a street car as i am building. Race cars on drag radials on the opposite end want to spool quickly. I am expecting my car to still have sufficient torque so I am not worried about turbo lag and welcome a turbo that will spool in the higher rpm range once the tires have a good grip. I am accomplishing this with a large exhaust turbine that takes more exhaust gas flow to spool it.

Lastly just my opinion but anytime you turbo its a great idea to get a good dyno tune, so many engines blow up from people not knowing what they are doing on the tunning side. I know veyr little about tunning an engine for a turbo, so I will be building it, picking a pressure to run it at, and letting a pro tune it. Last thing I want to do is blow up a new 5k motor.

Thats a really nice setup you have for that turbo, just remember most of the time the limiting factor on boost is not how much pressure your system can produce, but how much octane you can give it! The more you pump into it the higher octane you will need for it. From what I have been told on pump 91 octane you start limiting out at about 11-12 psi then things go bad..... Keep having fun!!!

oh yeah compression ratio has a lot to do with what psi you can run at.... Just remember the whole octane thing is about how much fuel mixture at what pressures you have to ignite. The higher the pressure the more octane needed to ignite

Hey thanks.

I've heard nothing but good things about Brian at B & G. He really knows his stuff.

There was 2 reasons I went with Hellion:

1st: The turbo offered by Hellion, even with the base kit is a Turbonetics 62-1 Big Shaft Turbo. They guarantee 10% better flow over any other similar turbo. They also told me, that all the parts for the turbo assembly were hand picked, and mated.
I like that. I tell ya, when this thing turns on, look out.

2nd: Hellion was the only company that offered a 24hr turn around.
Every other company ( Including B & G ) has a 8 - 10 week wait
for turn around time to assemble the package and send it out.

So, if you don't mind the wait, Brian is the best deal, and has excellent quality parts.

If you want it now, Hellion is the only one I found with a 24hr delivery promise.

Good Luck

Is there a wait on just the turbo headers or do they have those in stock ready to ship?
