I bought a 1985 GT that was run in SCCA IGT for many years. Always wanted to try some road racing so I bought a turn key car. Ran it at Watkins Gklen in '07 and was hooked. The problem with IGT is it had to be pretty much stock, which means it doesn't handle well in the corners. With so many aftermarket manufacturers, I did not know which to choose. So I spent every track day taking to all the Mustang guys with the experience. Everbody was running Maximum Motorsports parts.
So over the winter I will update on my progress with the swap and give some honest input on fit and quality. Hopefully this will help others who want to make their Mustang stick in the corners on the track or street.
First impression the prices are on par with everybody else. The tech guys are pretty cool on the phone and knowledgable.
I started with a K-member brace and panhard rod kit. Two problem areas on any Fox body. The K member brace was a twenty minute install, it bolted right up! The part looks great and the powder coating looks good.
The Panhard rod kit has everything needed and 12 pages of very detailed instructions. I have it 1/2 way in and will post pictures when finished. So far it is going in rather well. The reason for the rod is at high speed braking the rear lifts and causes a rear steer of the car and at 150 that is scary.
Next will be poly sway bar bushing, solid aluminum steering rack bushings and delrin solid control arm bushings. This will eliminate any deflection in the front end when cornering. Before spring (means need more money) Rear sway bar kit and lower control arms.
Here are the suspension pictures.
