NEW 347 Motor Fouling plugs,Just back from Afghanistan
Hi guys, I have just got back from the War in Afghanistan (11b 101st Airborne Div 1/327) and am building up my old LX for the street. It is a new 302 block from Summit racing with a CHP 347 stroker kit. Heads are Cast iron Gt-40's removed from a '93 Cobra that have been ported and polished and have 1.94 and 1.54 valves. Intake is port matched Cobra. Cam is a FMS X-303 with 24# injectors. Fuel pump is stock and MAF is an old Auto Specialties( approx 71 MM) model from the late '80's.FMS 65 MM throttle body, Fuel pressure regulator is BBK and adjusted to 39 PSI. AOD trans with 9.5 Precision Industries converter 3500 stall and Trans Go Shift Kit.Bassani X pipe,2.5 inch Flowmaster exhaust, Bassani equal length headers. New motor is together and Fouling plugs, raw gas is running out tail pipes.Idle must be kept at 1500 rpm to prevent cutting off.I bought the car new back in '89 and this has been my deam for the last year while in country. Any thoughts on how to correct this?

Welcome back! And let me say THANK YOU! Your sacrifices for our country, and others, are very much appreciated!
Is the air meter calibrated for your 24lbs injectors? And are you sure there is only 39psi of fuel pressure, have you checked? With that much fuel running out the pipes you are more then likely going to have to replace the O2 sensors.

Have you checked your computer for codes? It should spit out some codes if its super rich. Gas coming out of your pipes is definitely not a good thing. Sounds like your Oxygen sensors have you be replaced like justnlx says.

Hi guys and thanks for the kind words. It is great to be back in the USA. I picked up some O2 sensors this morning and ordered a 75MM MAF calibrated for the 24# injectors. The MAF on the car now is an Auto Specialties model made back about 1990 or 91. While it is adjustable, I don't think it will work with the 24 pounders. The fuel pressure is set at 39 PSI according to the BBK gauge that I have. Anyone happen to know if the stock spark plugs will work ok or will I need to go to a different( warmer or colder) plug? Thanks.

I would say get the spark plugs designed for the gt40 heads from a cobra. Unless you're going forced induction or nitrous oxide, I don't see a point in going to a colder plug.
