Default 351 suggestions

Hi, I am wanting to build a 351 to be a semi daily driver during the week but a bottle feeder at the strip. Anyone have any suggestions on the block and crank I get?? I've been told that truck 351's are stronger and have heavier duty forged cranks. I have also heard that some trucks have 4 bolt main blocks but I can only find them as aftermarket. Anyone know of anything that came out stock with them, Lightning maybe?? Thanks

The best block to start with is a 69'-71' model. Me myself was lucky to find a 69' windsor and that is what i'm building now lol. 69'-71' models have a higher nickel content which make them stronger. 69' is the best windsor block out there for a factory block. But anything past 71' is junk to me lol. But it all depends on the amount of power you are looking to get also. And how fast you are wanting to find the motor lol. Me i was lucky and my bro who owns a Classic Mustang and Shelby Shop had one there and i bought it for $500 for almost a complete motor. But if you are just looking at mild build and a weekend warrior any windsor block is ok. Just my 2 cents.

I highly doubt you're going to find a 351 block with 4 bolt mains that isn't aftermarket. You could get just about any block but the preferred ones are the 69-74's. And the material you get the rotating assembly made from depends on the horsepower level you're wanting. A 5140 steel unit will be more than enough unless you're going to either be over 500 hp, or going to spin the engine consistantly over 7000 rpm. If you go past 500 hp, then you should go with the 4340 forged steel bottom end. By this time, with a factory block, the weak link will be the block itself.
