I want to get a short throw for my 88 GT and wanted to know which one is good. I have a T5 with stock gears. How much do they run and are they really worth it?

I like the old school look hurst chrome stick short throw. Comes with new panel to replace the stock plate and says hurst looks sharp and better than stock around $150?
89 LX vert. Auto to 5 sp.(t-5WC)Hurst short throw 3;73 rear, trickflow cover. Trickflow HCI street heat stage 1 ,24lb.inject. 70mmbody,75mm prom mass air. shorty headers highflow cats, flowmaster. Any of the Shifters that are available will be WAY better than the stock one. Its like most things out there, just go with what looks good to you and a price you are happy with and you will be just fine with your purchase.

I have the steeda Tri-Ax I wasn't 100% satisfied but it IS better than stock, if I get different one I'm going to try MGW's shifter I believe it's adjustable 2 or 3 ways!
I got one for my dad on ebay for 50 bucks new, not sure on what brand it is. I knew that he wouldnt need a really expensive one and the one I got worked out great. The shifts are a lot closer together than stock and I missed 3rd a couple of times before I got the hange of it. But, definately get one, they are worth every penny.

Hurst, Pro 5.0, Steeda, MGW, B&M, they all make good stuff and they all are light years better than the stock shifter. The first shift you make with an aftermarket unit, you'll be wondering why you waited.

I haven't driven a mustang with a stock shifter but I have a hurst and the shifts are close together and smooth also I don't know if my model has it but it feels like it has a reverse lockout bearing so that you cant miss your shift from second to third by throwing it into first.
with my tri-ax I only noticed a slightly shorter shift, I had to really be paying attention to notice it though. BUT it is more precise, 2nd-3rd is very easy it acts like it wants 3rd! But I like the more precise feeling. If you get one and hear a whiny noise, no worries it's the natural sound of your tranny! Drive a really old car and you'll know what a transmission sounds like.
Take your center boot apart, and 4 screws, then you see the shifter, 4 screws there too. You might need to smack the old shifter with a small hammer, take it off, replace with new one, make sure you use RTV around the shifter. Also make sure you adjust the shift stops. They are 2 bolts, put your car in 3rd gear, turn the stop till it is against the shifter, do the same in 4th gear.
