Question Rear Disc Brake Conversion

I was wondering if anyone knows a cheap way to switch over to rear disc brakes on a 88 with a 4 lug rear. Threres someone on ebay selling caliper brackets for 89.00 he says all you have to do is get rotors from a turbo coupe and calipers from a cadilac seville. Or can i get a whole set up off a lsc that has rear disc brakes from around that year? Does this have the brackets i need on it? I have to swap my rearend and my new one needs brakes so i either stay with the drums or try to find a affordable way to go with disc brakes, they look so much better with my rims, and i really dont have the extra cash right now to spring for a conversion kit.

The easiest and cheapest way is to find an 87-88 turbo coupe rear axle. This will give you a trac-loc rear with 3.55's (if the coupe is 5 speed), or 3.73's if it was an auto. It will also give you all the calipers and brackets you need to convert to 4 wheel disc.
If you look hard enough you will find one, and it is cheaper to do it this way than it would have cost to buy the 3.73's alone.
The TC rear is 3/4" wider per side than the mustang, but the LSC is 1.5" wider per side.

The LSC is 5 lug though, the turbo coupe is 4.

The Lincoln rear is 1 1/2" wider than the mustangs, and so are the sn95s.

I thought the Turbo coupes had a 7.5 rear and not the 8.8? I am I wrong?

87-88 Turbo Coupes are 8.8, the earlier ones are 7.5

The turbo coupe 8.8's are 1 1/2 inches wider, same as the lincoln.

Check for tire clearance!

I would also like to know if you can just swap the brake parts . Do you need to use a different master cylinder as well ? Or a proportioning valve ?

I replaced the MC with one from an 86 SVO, and modified the prop valve with the motorsport plug to allow for the increased fluid required for the rear discs.

But can you just take the brakes off the turbo coupe and bolt them onto your stang ?

Nooo, the axle shafts are longer. You can pull the axles out, of the housing, if it's an 8.8, and put axles, calipers, brackets, and rotors in your stang. Beware...it will be 1 1/2" wider now, and you will have to change the proportioning valve, at the VERY LEAST, and should change the master cylinder. Might as well swap the whole axle, unless you have oodles of money tied up in gears and lsd (not the drug).

In case you are interested, the route I am taking is using the Lincoln MKIIV rotors and calipers (5 lug), and flipping the mounting brackets around to compensate for the wider axle.

I was thinking, you should be able to use the MKIIV calipers and brackets, flip the brackets over to make up the 3/4" (the lincoln is 1 1/2" wider on each side), and use the appropriate diameter 4-lug rotor.

I think that might work!

Or just let loose with some $$ and get the motorsport kit...after building that rearend, it would be a drop in the bucket!
