How long many miles will a 5.0 last?

I have a 1989 Mustang GT with 160,000 miles on it and it still runs hard and sounds smooth. I'm just wanding if anyone knows which internals in these engines start going bad first. I'm soo glad I don't even have a spec of smoke spuing out the exhaust yet. Ford Tough Hope I hit 200,000

As long as you change the oil, keep it tuned up, you could get 200,000 out of it. Mustangs are notorious for being abused, but it sounds like you have a good runner.. Good luck

no, thats forged aluminum as oppesed to the cast aluminum pistons used in most cars. forged is best.

If it's not broke, you're not trying hard enough.

Hehehe. He was being a, well, just drop the M.
The 5.0 is a great engine. Well built and reliable. The problem with the Mustang engines is people tend to abuse them, and rightfully so. It's in a Mustang.
However, if you don't always drive it like a madman, and you do the basic maintenance it'll last a long time. The goal on my rebuild is 300,000. Only 298,400 to go...

Any engine can live a loooong time as long as it isn't overly abused and maintained.

Most of my past mustangs when I didn't abuse them, they broke...Every bad thing that happened did when I was being good, and not when racing..WTF...lol

Now that's just strange. I've driven 5.0's to the point that the crank was almost in two pieces and I've never had one go on me. Obviously gaskets and seals will go, but I've never had a hard part fail.
Maybe you've got gremlins?
