I want to do a complete tune up on my 85 but noticed i dont have a coil i have this box sitting on the left fender is that the coil? if so do they make better ones? can you run an MSD thru that?

Ok i need to know what my car has with E .E. C OR without E.E.C....How do i determine that?

What you have now is the Ford Duraspark ignition, I can't remember what coil you have, a canister style or box but you said box so I'm thinking it's like this one. Regardless of which one, you should be able to run the MSD through it. The MSD coil would compliment it though.

Well thats the problem..LOL i dont see my coil...i saw an ignition box on the fender....but where is the coil located? im thinking its the style you have a picture of....if i can find it maybe its under the big air cleaner on the 85

This is a 1985 engine bay, the owner switched it over to a canister style, but the box style is just as good.

ok so my coil shoud be on that side of the engine bay? i looked i didnt see it....all i see is a box that is about 4 inch by 6 inches long with a connector going to it that said ignition box...but no coil...maybe im just not seeing it i have to trace out the coil wire that is in the middle of the cap right? so i can follow the wire to see where it goes...

Yup, trace the coil wire coming from the distributor cap and see where you go. That circle is the stock location for the 1985 coil.

The stock location for the coil is on the intake manifold on the '85, just behind the distributor and to the passenger side. It is a canister type (cylinder shaped).

I believe '86s were the first to get the fender apron-mounted coil, along with the multi-port EFI.

If you do have the big honking dual snorkel air cleaner it'll most likely cover the coil up. Take that off and you'll see the coil just in front of the carb, next to the passenger side valve cover.

Thanks Guys ...when i left work yesterday i opened the hood traced the coil wire and walla right under the air cleaner....Thanks for the replys and info....

Not a problem i thought i was loosing my mind i didnt see a coil....
