Default 1989 302 roller camshaft

I have a roller 302 that want to use e7 heads on. They have been mildly ported other that that it is completely stock. I have a .512 lift .220 duration @.050 camshaft that i want to use. I have some telling me i will have a valve clearance issue. What is everyone opinon here. I also would like to get some idea of what kind of horsepower I am looking at getting. I am using a weiand excellerator intake and 2.5 in exhaust with flowmasters. Any input would be helpful. Thanks.....Todd

Hiya, welcome to the site.
That .512 lift is about the max I'd recommend using with stock type pistons. They'll be close, it'd be a good idea to check piston to valve clearance to be safe, but I know some that have used it with no problems. It's also about the biggest cam you can use with E7 heads before they run out of flow. With just a swap to this cam, nothing else, would give you maybe 10-15 hp more. With more mods, like better heads and intake, it will be more. In your case, I'm thinking 20 hp above 4000 rpm.
