Default Time for an engine rebuild, some ideas. Want your opinion!

Alright,I don't have enough cash right now to just go out
and buy a new high horsepower engine. I'm running
near 160k on my Stang so I'm thinking it's time for both
an engine rebuild and tranny rebuild.

Okay,so this is where I would like your opinion.
I was thinking of using 289 rods.
Cause 302 rods are 5.090",but the 289 rods
are 5.156",so I'd have a "long rod" engine.
What do you guys think of this?

Also,is it hard to rebuild a tranny?
I've never done it before, think this would be a good
time to learn! hehe..

Also, does anyone know what it might cost
to have someone rebuild my rear end & put
4:10s in there?

Thanks guys..

well i can comment on the gear installation thing. buy all the parts yourself. get a deluxe gear installation kit from summit. buy the ring and pinion yourself, get a ford racing ring and pinion. Make sure you get the traction lok rebuild kit too...otherwise the gear installation place will over-charge you big time on those parts.

289 rods aren't really going to gain you anything. "Long rod" 302/6s run 5.4"-5.6" rods. The marginal extra length of the 289 rod isn't worth the effort.
