Will be doing a upper/lower intake install and would like to know how long to let the rtv set up before putting the lower down. Also read to use rtv on the water passages can someone be a little more specific. If anyone has any other tips or shortcuts please pass them along. Thanks in advance this site has been most helpful in the past.
Eagle is right. You want the RTV to have a "skin" to it. This means that the sealant isn't completely set, but the air has caused the very top layer to firm up a little.
The purpose of this is to ensure that the RTV doesn't squish too much and work its way into the intake ports which would restrict air flow.
So my advice would be to hang out with a drink or a snack and watch the stuff dry. Not a lot of fun, but I've changed intakes about 8 times now. Its just part of the game.
