Default 2005 V6 mustang 302 engine swap

Hello,
So, for a little background information, I have a 2005 V6 mustang. I'm tired of the V6, so I want a nice V8... but i really dont find any use in trading in for a GT because either way, the engines going to come out for a larger displacement engine.
However, the GT option is open because as of today, used GT mustang prices have dropped almost $10,000.00. I can get the mustang i wanted one month ago, for about $20,000.00.

okay so, as for the V8, I would like to go with a 302 (or 351W) crate engine. To make things easier, i found a engine building company that will make me the 302 i need.
here is the site:
Kit Car Engines, Custom Crate Engines, Muscle Car Engines
Its an EFI engine with the engine harness and computer. They will also help me out with a transmission option as well.
There are only a few things i need help with. A) the mounting location of the engine. If any of you have experience with the 302/351W please dont hesitate to help. Ill take anything, engine dimensions, weight...
B) I duno... what should i be worried about?
I wont need help with rearend options, I already have that under control.
The reason i started this from was, so when i start my build (either 302 swap 351W swap, or 4.6 GT to 5.8L swap) i have some place to post my daily progress, and my pictures.
sorry though, if i was posting on other threads... I just needed to ask a few questions and i never realized it would actually take over someone's thread.

so, feel free to give me pointers, heads up, information... anything.

First thing to is check with your local laws, as far as your yearly inspection goes. I'm not sure if you're checked in Canada, but here in the US such a swap would not be street legal due to smog standards.

yearly inspection??
I dont think i would have any problem with this car in canada (maybe for the winters)
All the better for me to hurry up and do this, before the smog standards come to canada.

does anyone know if the 302 or 351W will fit dirrectly on top of the 05-08 mustang GT engine mounts?
also, does anyone know the dimensions for those mounts (the distance between the two, the distance from the mount to the transmission...)

Do a search on 5.0 Mustangs and Super Fords and Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords websites. There was a series of articles a few years ago detailing the swapping in of a Windsor to Mustang racer Robin Lawrence's '05 Mustang.

IIRC, there was a lot of fab work in both the engine mount and steering rack area's to get it in there.

K thanks... now i know its possible. I have the funniest feeling that the engine will fit with the factory mounting locations, but different motor-to-frame mounts. And i also have a funny feeling that the transmission, with a different bellhousing, will fit too.
All i need is the distance between both motor-mounts on the K-member. Lots of people, i know, are sticking 351W and 302 into 2005-08 mustang GT's in 3 days. and they even said that both the GT and V6 are built the same, except for transmission, rearend, suspension, and engine.

I still need more info.... damn google isnt helping one bit.

K, I got a K-member picked out to hold the 302. Its a "Conversion" K-member that the 302 will easily sit on.
Now, for the difficult part. the transmission...
I am looking at a T56 from MMR or Joe heck racing.
Or i could go with a TKO600 from MMR.
OR i could keep it simple, go with a HD T-5 with a 5.0L bellhousing which for sells.
I am not planning to supercharge or turbocharge my 302. Naturally Aspirated engine= less **** to screw up, more reliability. I am going to add some heads and headers after I'm all done to get a little more HP from the engine.
So with that being said, some mustang GT guys are getting over 450hp from there GT's and they are using a HD t5 trany.

I want to keep the transmission and driveline costs low. At least if i go with a T5, the chances of me shortening the drive-shaft are low, and i can spend more money on the rearend.

But, has anyone gone with a 5.0L FRPP engine and a HD T5?? I need some help on that... google isnt helping.

OMG thank you.
this means i can go to a T56 6 speed. which also means, this may be a little easier.

Why do you want to swap out the V6 for a V8 powerplant that is making roughly the same hp stock but a bit more trq? And on top of it all you are going to do to the 302 or 351 is a set of heads and some exhaust? Sounds like a huge waste of money and time to me. You could spend $5000 on the V6 and have it sitting at 350hp compared to spending $5000 on a V8 swap and having it sit at 300hp and weigh more...Any particular reason why you are wanting to swap out the V6? The new SOHC V6 is a very nice engine that takes to mods very well. I know more than a few people who have been able to get into the low 14's with just bolt-ons. Add the X-charger to the mix and things start to get real fun.

But, see i am trying to win a displacement war. Every time someone on the track brings out a forced induction car, it breaks... every time. the Most effective way around the track is displacement. The corvette owners all have older style corvettes with massive V8 engines. I am not going to risk my car breaking down on the track... so Im going with a V8.
When i see a mustang, I think of a BOSS 302 or 427 with a straight exhaust and rattling everything to ****. Not a 350Z with the ford logo on it.
At the end, my car will be way lighter than a GT, and it will have more HP.
Look at Robin Lawrence... same car as mine, same idea, different use. He does the straight line, and i do the corners.
PLUS, I am sooo tired of just having a mustang... I want a hotrod, one of a kind car.

I see your point but I don't know whether it will pay off the way you want it too. The new X chargers for the V6 are a good way to make easy power and they are reliable. If you do a safe tune on them then they should last just as long as a big displacement engine and not consume nearly as much gas. Steeda uses them on the QS6 to make a safe 365hp and torque.

actually i could do a 4.3L Stroker from SSM... but it would require the same amount of work.

BACK to my 302: What would you do for fuel injection? Edelbrock, or Holley?
Edelbrock Pro-FLo2 requires a different firing order than the BOSS 302 from FRPP.
the boss firing order (First 3, i think is) 1-5-3 and the PRo-flo2 is 1-7-4. But its cheep.

Holley on the other hand is good for the 302 firing order, but its $5000.00 for the kit with a Wideband O2 sensor. the one without is $3000.00

Do you need a wideband O2 sensor???

Damn.....
Everyone i know uses a Edelbock EFI kit with there 302 or 351.
What about Holley?

Anyways, I have no idea why Holly has there Commander 950 EFI kit with an O2 sensor for 2 grand more than the kit without an O2 sensor.
However, If i could somehow raise the HP from 340 to 385 then the kit becomes 1000 cheeper (WTF!)

OKay, so i need some major help right now on two things
A) EFI kits
B) Ignition.

Does anyone know of a MSD or Mallory Ignition kit i could use with either Holley Commander 950 or Edelbrock Pro-Flo2.

these are my next two major important tasks. after, Exhaust, then tear-down procedure. The faster i can get help, the sooner i can start, and the sooner i can start posting pictures. When I am done, every person on this form that helped, will get credit.
