Post What should I do with street slicks if I am raceing

If I have street slicks should I heat them up before I get to the stageing line. Will it be better for thoes tires to be hot when I go down the track and will they stick better because I am not getting much grip when I launch off the Line

Even with drag radials, you should do a small burnout. Don't boil them, do it until they smoke over and then drive out of it.

this is something you will have to experiment with because of different tracks use different compounds to prep tracks..but never do a long burn out is all this does is make the tires "greasy"

Default 1/4 Mile Times

The reason I ask is I was very dissapointed in my times lastnight. I have a 93 lx with a new ford crate motor. Its the 5.0 340hp forged motor. I have all the bolts ons. gt40 x heads with e303 cam ,elec. fan, 3:73's, ford alum. drive shaft, Nitto 555r 275 outback, king cobra clutch, h/d ford racing trac lok differential, the car is lowered and i know this doesnt help with drag racing but still?, I have boxed rear control arms, I ran 13.5 @ 104mph. I ran a 13.8 last year with my stock 5.0 95,000 miles with bolt ons. No head modification no cam mods? So what up?? I am using a stock cobra intake which ford said would work great with the new engine. My fuel pressure is 32 @ idle and 14-15 deg. timing Im using 24lb. inj . I was really hoping for high 12's with the new motor. I will say this though, I only have 500 miles on the new motor. Do you thnk this will run better with more miles on it
Thanks

Usually, a new engine will get better times when it gets a little mileage on it, 500 miles it's still pretty tight so things will get better the more you drive it.
