Mis-aligned Intake manifold gasket! Hey all,
I am in the process of installing my Canfield 65cc heads and my Trick Flow intake on my 5.0
I did a test fit with the head gasket, head, intake manifold gasket, and intake.
Well, upon installing the intake gasket, I found that it sits about 1/4" lower than the port!
After calling around, and Finally calling Canfield, they told me, "oh yea, that's normal. You just have to cut the tab off of the bottom of the gasket and then stick it to the head where it "Should" go."
Can you believe that crap???
I wonder how many people out there just put them on without re-aligning them.....
Here's a pic....

Mike, that is normal, the reason why it is like that is earlier small block heads/intakes have smaller water ports

No, no...
Look at the Intake Port. See how the gasket's port is about 1/4" lower than the port on the head?

I would just cut it and not worry about it.

I don't think I'm explaining this right.
The port on the intake gasket is the right size of the head and the intake.
It is just mis-aligned when using the "Locator Tab".
The whole port on the gasket is moved down 1/4".
Canfield said to cut the "Locator Tab" and then glue the gasket in the higher position.

Here's a picture of the port with the intake gasket in the standard location with Canfield Heads and a Trick Flow intake.
You can see where the gasket is hanging down into the port and the bottom of the gasket is not visible.
