Default starting problem....

My mustang is not starting and the folowing codes show up...

116-coolant temperature out of self test range

542-fuel pump circuit open-pcm to motor

636-transmission fluid temperature higher or lower than expected

anyone have an idea how to test for problems within these codes or know how to fix these problems...

Do you hear the fuel pump "whining" when you first turn the key on (but not cranking)?

If you hear the whine then I'd suggest erasing the codes and then try starting it again.

If you don't hear the whine then I'd troubleshoot the fuel pump problem first. Fuse?

I'd check the relay first, before pulling the fuel pump. Isn't is located in the tank??

wildstang..if you have an in tank fuel pump..before you pull it out hook up wires directly to the fuel pump from the battery.if it whines when you do that it is an electrical problem and you'll save yourself 90 bucks and a whole lotta dirty work!

I had the same problem and it turned out ot be the fuel pump carriage. The fuel pump carriage is the part that holds the fuel pump. Remember when you check for power going to the fuel pump it will only be there for the cycle part and then its gone till you start it. I learned this the hard way. The fuel pump carriage comes with a stock fuel pump, there is no way around it, so keep that in mind when ordering a fuel pump. Hope this helps you fix your problem. Good Luck.
