Codes what are they

Hey guys how do you go by getting codes for your car. Is it the same as the ones that autozone does. I have learn a lot since I have been on the joined and learening more each day. I also found a mod on may car that said 10 pin connector assembly on top of the fan it was done by the ford dealer can anyone tell me what this is.

You can go to Autozone and buy a code tester. They are about $30 bucks. The hookup is under the hood behing the driver's side strut tower. The 10 pin modification was done because on the earlier fuel injection cars their 10 pin connector wires were not long enough and used to cause driveability issues. All they did was add a extension harness.

Thanks I'll buy one and I can just hook it in and it read out codes to me.
