Default aftermarket radio install in center dash HVAC vents

ok instead of keeping the radio down low and in the way, anyone swapped the center vents and dropped a radio in the middle of the dash? my friend did this but it is a custom job. anyone know any way to do it easier?

I've seen a kit that put the radio where the A/C controller is and moved the controller down.

I bought the one that moves the HVAC down and the radio up. I used it for two year and decided that I didn't like it. I have since then made my own. I think custom is the best way to go. The kit I bought did not allow for the HVAC to light up and the one I made does. My cousin even used my design to keep the pocket under the radio in with the new design we made.

gauge pods i seen a billet gauge pod that holds 5 of the small gauges that covers the empty space where the radio would be.

kinda like this one here except it would have 3 on top and 2 below it was $38 but i can make one cheaper and it looked clean

I have actually been looking into the same thing. I think I'm going to have to cut out the vents from the little bezel, and then gut out the vent tubes and what not behind the vents and make a support bracket. Then move all the wiring up there. I think I am actually tearing out my whole center console and modifying the dash to end smooth with the bottom of the AC controls. Then I'll take out the Ebrake lever and install a ratchet shifter about a foot back from the stock location.

I just started my customizing work today. I cut out the post in the middle of the vents, and the back of the vent bezel where it narrows down, so now my radio fits in the bezel. I just need to secure it and fill in about a half inch on each side of the radio.
Does anyone know of a bondo like filler for plastic that I can fill that in with? I want to do that, smooth it and paint it.
I'll post some pics of my progress soon.

Now that will harden to match the plastic, right? It won't be soft at all when it hardens?
