Default ecm relay problem

ok people, here is the deal. I have an 86 5.0 with the H.O. engine. it has the DA1 computer in it. the ecm relay some how got water in it and was bad. I replaced the relay with a new one and then the computer. it still didn't fix the problem, but then i realized that the ecm relay was't clicking. I then removed the cover off of the relay and forced it to contact, the car started up and purred like a kitten, but as soon as i let up on the contactor in the relay the car stalls out. the best I can figure, is the power wire that activates the relay is bad or the relay is bad. how do i trouble shoot this problem?. does anyone know witch wire makes the relay work. I did notice that the new relay has a circut board and the old one doesn't. I don't know if that is how they make them know or if sompthing is wrong.

Make sure you have the right relay and check your fuse able links around starter solenoid

I thought about that, but what is the best way to check for that.

The fuse able links that are good will be firm but flexible one that is burnt out will be like a wet noodle, best way to describe it, but you will be able to tell or it you have a volt meter check power on each side or check for resistance through the link.
