Default Having some problems with my 5.0!

So i recently purchased a Automatic Ford Mustang GT 5.0 last week and i was driving it home from work when i noticed it was acting up a bit. i was giving it gas and the RPM's were raising but it wasnt actually Accelerating. Before i got home i had to park it on the side of the road because it got so bad that i was hitting 5-6 thousand RPM's before it would Grab a gear and go. so i parked it and rented a Tow Dolly to take it home and now its sitting in my garage. Any Ideas on why its doing this? and by chance does anyone know what kind of Engine Oil it takes, i was told it took Auto trans fluid/Dectro III, so thats what i put into it. maybie that might be the trouble, but i dunno and need help! Thanks alot for your friendly Advice and ill be coming back to read some Post's about my Problem. Thanks guys.
Brett

Welcome to the site!!!!I would suggest that you do a new filter and fluid. If it still slips after that then it is probably the trans. is bad.

That sounds like transmission slippage, meaning your forward clutch packs are worn out, and the revving up before it engages tells me that. You'll need it serviced, with new clutches, bands, seals, and gaskets. Basically a trans rebuild is all you can do. If you keep driving it, you'll notice it'll come out of gear when stopping quick, making a turn quick, or even when it's cold it'll jump out of gear.
