1995 Mustang gt electrical problem Here's the story:
I was making a u-turn in a parking lot two days ago when mid-turn all of the power goes out of the car with a loud pop. After moving the car into some grass I popped the hood and saw that my battery had shifted during the turn and the positive terminal had connected with the metal on my power steering line. It was pretty lodged in there so I had a maintainence guy that was hanging around yank it back into place. After moving the battery back I tried starting it again and nothing happened, no lights, no "ding" that my door was open, nothing. I called AAA for a jump, and the guy tried a portable battery charger and then his truck. After attempting to jump my battery for about 20 minutes, he tried replacing it with a brand new one. That didn't work either. The AAA guy tried to tell me it was my alternator, but I guess I just don't see how, because it's not like my battery won't hold a charge, the charge just isn't going anywhere. The maintainence guy that was kind of lurking around me the whole time thought it was my battery cables. I'm thinking it's a short circuit or my starter, but I'm no mechanic, so I wanted to get a some second opinions.
Why did the battery move? I bought this car about 4 months ago and when I was looking over the engine I saw that the guy had the battery bungee corded to the car. It wasn't a deal breaker so I didn't bother making him fix it, I just wanted the car. I had been meaning to fix it myself, but it was just one of those things that took the backseat to all of the other problems that surfaced after I got it home. |
