I was wondering....... Lets say a set of heads is advertised at a 40 hp gain. Is that the maximum for the heads alone when matched with the right intake, exhuast, cam and so on. or is that a gain with just other stock or near stock componets.

That would be what you'd see on an otherwise heavily modified motor. In other words, you can't bolt on a set of heads, throw in a K&N and automatically assume 225 hp + 40 hp + 15 hp means you have 280 horsepower.

Hey, i have a 1994 Ford Mustang Cobra with the following mods done:

Steeda Strut Tower Brace
Steeda Caster/Camber Plates
Steeda Sport Springs (lowers car 1.25")
Ployurethane Spring Isolators
Offset Rack Bushings
2 Chamber Flowmasters
Offroad set of H-pipes with stock tips

I've bought the car like this, the only other thing that isn't stock on the car is the K&N air filter (no biggy). Anyway, i'm wondering if anyone has some ideas for what i should do with this. I'm thinking of going with a cold air intake system, maybe a 76 mm MAF, 80mm throttle body, and ya, i'm on a bit of a money restriction, and i've got some interior things i will be changing (but performance always comes first). Any help is appreciated.

The stock block is fine well into the 500 hp range. A well balanced rotating assembly and NO detonation are keys to putting that kind of power through a stock block. You can throw on a main support if you like but their value is debatable.

At 350 well tuned hp, a stock block will last 100,000+ miles.

Question cam selection

My 91 Gt currently has a stock block with stock heads, cobra intake, aftermarket adj. mass air, k&n, underdrive pulley, shorties w/hpipe and superturbos. I have a t-5 and 4.11+ gear. I just bought the car so it might be lower. I'm planning on adding a Motorsport cam but I am unsure which cam will make the most power with stock heads without modifying rockers etc. I was also planning on adding 24lb injectors, 70mm throttle body and 75mm mass air. Would it be worth adding these extras and what are the comparisons on the motorsport cams for stock applications?

Yellow, that combo will make your car ilegal and give you little power. With a stock intake and heads, you are really wasting your money

Hey Twentz, A good cam for your car would be one of the 303 series from ford. The best one I think would be the B or the E and in comparission it makes a difference. Since I put in the B in my car with all stock short block it feels alot better.

Craig,

There are many different opinions on how far you should take the stock block. It depends on the application. If you're running nitrous for example, 550 flywheel would be a recommended max if everything is tuned nicely. Although, some would say 450, to keep it safe. Its hard to say. If your looking for the lowest prices on parts btw check out

Great customer service as well.

Yeah I am definitely on a restriction for money, considering I asked my mom for 200 dollars for xmas ( I said for clothes ) but its gonna go on my beloved baby( my car ) and since I make minumum wage at my job ( even though I am 17, my first job lol ) I make around 100 a week..and saving! Next I am getting heads, gears and then the rest of the " inexpensive things. " I will probably have a house full of parts just laying around to be installed lol! :] but I can`t wait till my car if fully prepped for that N2o :] Pics coming in 1 week ( of my car! )

Ok, I'm going to probably embarrass myself with these questions but I need to learn somehow, right? I'm barely getting into the whole 5.0 scene.

Pulleys? I have no idea what they are so could someone explain what they do and where they are located? How easy are they to install?

Torque boxes. My friend told me to make sure these are reinforced somehow. He said to have them welded on because they can rip out from hard driving. What is the story with this?

Lowering kits. My car will basically be a city thrasher. What would be a good drop? I don't want it slammed or anything dramatatic.

Suspension. What is a good and cheap way to decrease the amount of sway and keep my tires from squealing when cornering?

Gearing. I've looked on E-Bay for 3.73 gear kits and see different numbers for the type of rear end. 7.3, 7.5, 8.8 are the most common ones. Which one is right for an '89?

I guess that's all for now. Sorry for being a total newbie. The fact that I don't know what pulleys are really bothers me. :o

If i bought one of those Ford Racing crate engines that has about 320HP would I still be able to go above 400 HP without having to have a crank support or do they already have one?? I'm not really sure what a crank support is, althought got a picture from the name, can someone elaborate a little bit and humor me with what a crank support does and why or if i really need one. Also, how much would it be?
