Ok...I had put an MSD 6A Ignition and a MSD Blaster 2 Coil on my 89GT....I went to go start car....car didn't start!!! SO, I took off MSD Ignition and Blaster Coil...and hooked all the wiring back up like it was originally....car still didn't want to start...car rotates but does not start!!..My stepdad checked the original coil , ignition module, battery, solenoid, cleaned distributor cap, cleaned distributor rotor....still car doesn't start.!!! This car has an alarm on it which is hooked up to the ignition somewhere...if I disconnect alarm car won't start...What I need to know where did the guy hook up the alarm to the ignition....I think my stepdad checked for spark at the coil...I think he said there was no spark...can't remember....I MAY have fried a wire somewere....This makes me really mad....mustang broke....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!: (
Check all fuses. Check fuel pump. Check pop switch in back area of car that cuts off fuel. It sounds like YOU did whatever happened. Remember that it probably is not a big fix
Assuming it ran before you made these changes, ensure that all the corrections are made properly. Also, make sure you didn't reverse the polarity on the coil when you reinstalled the original one.
It can't be the fuel pump....just replaced not that long ago.....checked all the fuses....in the fuse box....checked a couple of fuses that are hooked up to alarm...their all ok.... When I hooked up the MSD Ignition...I think I hooked it up wrong...and MAYBE fried a wire...I really don't know....???
Normally, a alarm is just hooked up between an ignition wire on the steering colum unless you had someone really smart hook it up and tie the selnoid to the fuel pump so it would not pump gas. Either way I doubt it is the alarm. I also doubt it is a fuse (but could be) because you said it "rotates" I'm assuming you mean the car tries to crank but just won't fire.
Did you disconnect the battery while you were hooking all the wiring up?
Also, when you turn on the key be real quiet and listen for that little whining motor sound coming fromt the rear end. If you don't hear that then the fuel pump is probably not getting power to it. If that is the case then look behind your drivers side panel covering the access to the drivers tail light in the trunk. There is a little box there with a small button on it. Make sure it is pushed in and not poped out. That is your fuel pump cut off switch incase you get in an accident. You might could have shorted it if you did not have your battery disconnected and caused that button to pop. (Its a stretch but possible).
Also for grins make sure when you check your fuses don't forget about the most important ones in the engine bay under that little black box lid near the drivers side strut. Pull that cap and check the fuses there also (I believe this is correct on the 89 models).
If those don't work then give us a ring back and we'll try to assist you further.
their are fuses...under my hood...by the driver side strut...hmm...thats new to me...I'll have to check....never seen them before....Yes...I can hear the fuel pump...it's not fuel problem...I am positive it's something electrical....
Ok, If you already know you're fuel pump is working right, and you're sure its electric, pull the coil wire off the cap hold it near something metal and have someone try and crank it over. if you're not getting spark, then you have to go back farther. You say you checked the original coil, did you have the blaster coil checked? It is possible to receive a bad coil from the factory.
More often than not, if you tried the box, it didnt work, then didnt work without it either, its possible to have damaged something. when you pulled the box, did you use the blaster coil or the original? With it spinning but not starting old ford knowledge recommends ignition control module. Im not saying your stepfather doesnt know what hes doing, (obviously hes in the right direction) but did he do just one test on the ICM or two? Back in parts, we did a dual test on them and a lot proved to have worked when the first test came out negative. If still no power to the coil, the under hood relays you refered to, can (depending on vehicle) control fuel pump, igniton, lights, etc. One thing to do is switch the relays around, there are usually 3 or 4 relays that can be switched around, 4-5 prong etc... remembering where you took them from try switch them around then see if you get power anywhere else or lose power somewhere else, check the coil spark again with each. This is just a lil bit more to check.... Hope it helps..

The car started fine before i touched anything...I put the MSD 6a on and blaster 2 coil on...car "cranked" but did not ignite....I took off MSD 6a and blaster 2 coil....I am pretty sure...i put everything back the way it was hense the "pretty sure"....car wouldn't start....my stepdad put a volt meter to the original coil....their is power on the original coil...I have a test light...I''ll check the ICM......hmmm
ok, with the coil and the ICM, a test light is just one of the tests, you will need a digital volt meter to actually see the resistance. Back when i was working at Discount Auto, the coils had the input test, and output test... if one didnt work the coil was bad. If you're not sure about this, take the coil and ICM to an auto parts store, they have free testing for electrical parts, (ones that can be tested). If you want to try it yourself, I can get you the actual required voltage/resistance you will need, as well as the placement of the meter clips.

Ok, as far as the ICM goes, they have a multi-connector meter that plugs to the teeth on the module, then a ground then a special plug that fits in the harness area of the ICM. This one would be easier to get tested at an auto parts store. For the coil, Im going to pull up the stats tommorow. Its at the store right now. 94 is it? I believe thats an F496 coil. I will double check that. Keep in mind, that if you check the blaster as well, it should have a higher resitance. If you're going to take the ICM to get checked, take the coil as well, like i said, its free testing at the parts store.
Hope this helps

I don't know guys...can't find whats wrong.....how much is it for a Ford Dealer to look at it....I am not going to go to one....but I thought I would just check their prices....how much do you think I can sell the car for...lol....It's an 89GT...Primer Gray...157,000 miles...mods: cold air kit, flowmaster, h-pipe.....except for the fact the car won't start...lol...prolly sell it for what $500....??
SOLD .. I'll send you the $500 money order tomorrow.
Ford dealers STINK I would not take my go cart (don't really own one) to them. Just don't get too frustrated and it will come. There are some very good folks on here that can help and I'm sure they will do everything they can to do just that.
