Clip the timing light power and ground leads on a POS and NEG, clip the clamp thingy on the number 1 plug wire. Start car, remove SPOUT, point and shoot, and look at the marks on the balancer. Rotate dizzy to adjust, set it, tighten down dizzy, Put spout back in. And your good to go.

do you pull the spout before or after you start the car...
Doesnt matter. The important part of the SPOUT is just to make sure you remove it before you set the timing. If you try to set the timing with the spout in, the ECM will automatically go back to base timing.

Left side of the balancer, there is a pointer( or should be), and there is also numbers and Hash marks on the balancer. Point and Shoot, line the number or hash marks up with the pointer.

Is there any special type of distributor wrench or tool needed to get to the distributor hold down bolt for a 1995 GT? I have tried various sockets & wrenches & can't seem to get anything to work too well. Any suggestions? Thanks

They do make a dizzy Hold down wrench, they sell it at Most parts stores. You may be able to use a wobble( thats what I call it). Will help you get into that tight spot. You could also use a crow foot. It looks like an open end wrench, but has a provision to put a ratchet or extension on.

Thanks.....I picked up a 1/2" distributor wrench at the local auto parts store for under $5 that worked great. I got about 13 degrees out of mine, any higher & it started to ping.
correct. you have to look close you may even have to take some scotch bright and brake cleaner to it to see the numbers. theres a row of numbers(degrees) starting with btc(before top center) and ending in atc(after top center) and in the middle of that number line is 0*(clinder being at the top of its stroke). it will all make sense when you see it.
it makes timing easier if you find the 10* and put a stripe of white out on that line, this will make it stand out when you shine your timing light down there. hope this helps.
and alex a4, if you loosened that clamp to the dist. and it doesnt turn then its stuck. your going to need to spray pb blaster on the base and let it sit for a couple days then take some channel locks to the hexed section on the dist.
