it was my first time doing a heater core. took me all day cause i bent the studs on the front of the heater box and couldnt get it lined back up. but i got a friend to come help me align it back up. but other than that it was kinda easy. wish i would have had some kind of long tool to reach the heater core cover bolts in the back. that would have saved me alot of time.

This was helpful..

I have done two over the years and now my latest 93 needs a heater core change. I bought it about a year ago and yet to put it in

I actually was getting ready to do it january and decided instead to yank my motor out and starty working on heads/cam/intake. Funny, That seemed easier

cant you buy a heater hose restrictor so the heater core doesnt go out? i found it on LRS for about 10 bucks, not bad for the price you could pay to replace your heater core, and allot less work,

Great info from you all,i by-passed mine for now,but after reading your posts,i'm getting a little excited to change mine,4-5 hrs seems alot better than the 8-10 hrs i was told it would take,i was also told that instead of fighting with the cover, you just cut it with a dremel to get the core out and than you can just duct tape the cover back together as you will not see it anyway. Now to buy one,is there one better than the other in brands,or places to buy one?or is it just luck that one will last longer than the other!

I'm interested in this as well. I thought I read somewhere that there is an aluminum heater core available that will last longer than the copper OEM-style replacement commonly available. Does anybody have any experience with one of these? Are they much more expensive than the usual one?

What about those flow restrictors? How do they increase the life of a heater core?

I'm thinking about buying a GT that needs a heater core and if I get it I only want to do the job once if possible...
