Angry Convertible Trim Removal- How???

Does anyone know how to remove the trim around the convertible top. Mine was in need of paint, I went ahead and painted it on the car, but it didn't come out too well. I also need to remove the piece between the trunk and the convertible top/trim. It has rust on it and the clear is thin on it, when I masked it last night, it pulled a chunk of paint off. It has 4 screws under the deck lid, but it won't budge without removing the trim. How does this stuff come off? I want to be careful with it, because it's may break on me ( my luck). I would just buy replacements but I'm cheap .

Thanks,

Kevin

Subscribing. It’s interesting to note that you can simply paint the trim. The rear of both side pieces are broke so hopefully I can removed them and use gorilla/super glue to reattach the mounting hardware. It’d be nice to “freshen” them up while off.

Be careful trying to get them off, they tend to break pretty easy.

Yeah, that why I was asking, mine had no paint and looked really brittle due to UV rays. I was wondering if they were clipped on or glued on because I still need to take them off to re-paint them.

Thanks,

Kevin

Here's some pic's of the trim/molding I'm talking about. I included a pic of my door bet molding, I repainted it too, the rubber was flaking off and I didn't want to replace it with the new ones and they not match, they look new now. But I was able to remove them!

Alright. After a telling a buddy at work about not being able to remove this trim, he and I looked more closely. The trunk hing covers have (2) 1/4" sheet metal screws holding them in place. The back trim has studs ( about 6) in it with 11/32" nuts on the bottom side, covered with, what I call pipe dope or plumbers putty, and a layer of duct tape to protect the vinyl top. The side trim has the same studs and protectant, but the second one from the back is in the side and is very difficult to get to ( I think the trim went on before the top). One of the studs on each side is in the quarter window compartment, and you can reach it with a small socket and turn a little at a time if you have the patience, otherwise, take the whole panel apart. (3) of my studs were broke on my side trim panels, they broke as I was loosening the nuts, one was the side studs, I saved the other stud because I want my convertible boot to work right! I have some good glue here at work.

Hope this helps anyone in the future.

Thanks,

Kevin
