Default 1990 Mustang 5.0 lx crank but no start

I went to start my car and while it was cranking smoke came out of a wire on the positive side of the starter sloenoid on the fenderwell... the wire is black with and orange stripe and it is a fusible link does anyone know where the wire connects to or what may be causing it
thanks

that fuseible link sounds like it was a time bomb and it just let go, replacing it should fix your problem, but check your grounds at the fenderwell and the starter and engine grounds, check for corrosion and dirt if its there clean it, and this will solve your problem

Just trace down the cable and replace it. You shouldn't have any surprises with it.

If you keep blowing a fuse, you probably have a short somewhere.
Check all along the wires and look for bare wire.

The short could be in the solinoid or starter. not very noticable.

I thought the black and orange wire was connected to the alt. Unhook that wire and try to start again see what doesnt work.
