I am wondering if i have a bad bearing or not in my car and what should i be looking for or trying to hear?
Cause my Oil pressure gauge does not sit right it will go up and down and if i drive it for a while it will just sit in red and when i let off of the gas it will go back to normal pressure.
I checked the oil level and it says full.
how many miles?, has the car seen the track at all?, reason i ask is cause im having what sounds like bearing noise, but i dont have pressure issues, but an easy check is take some oil out in a solo cup, and run a good strong magnet in it and see if you pull and metal out, also what weight, and how old is the oil, this will help answer the question the best

in my race car i had an oil pressure issue.when the engine was cold it would have about 55 psi and when it got hot it would drop to 25psi.i tore it down and had bearing and clearance issues.it depends on how much metal you have in your oil,a little is normal
yep, sounds like your bearing clearances may be getting a bit loose. attach a mechanical pressure check gauge to the motor and read the oil pressure cold and hot from that. if you have more than 20psi at idle and between 40 and 60psi at 2000rpm (hot), then you're ok and the stock gauge or sending unit is probably going bad. if you have less pressure than that, you have the beginnings of a problem on your hands.

I had the same problem. but my stock swhortblock had 150,000 miles and ALOT of track passes on it. at idle the oil pressure dropped but when i gave it a little gas it went up. ended up being main bearings. but if you have a stock oil sending unit it, it may need to be replaced.

Where does the needle sit when it's cold and where when it's warm? All at idle, I mean. If the pressure drops when it's warm, does it come up when you rev it and if it does, where does it go to?

ya at cold its normal and at warm it lowers sometimes and when i let off the gas when im stopped at a light or what not it will go back up sometimes.and sometimes it will raise and lower when i drive and go all the way down to the red and just sit there?

that dont sound good.
I'm like so tired of working on it lol.
it is a lot of work to replace the bearings, but you don't even know if you have a problem until you hook it up to a mechanical oil pressure checker gauge. you can speculate til the end of time, i prefer to just start by getting all the data and figuring things out from there.
the gauge i have from autometer came with everything you need to install it @ 36.99 not including the gauge pod, but if you plan to permantly install it get the copper line kit, it installs where the original tube and sending unit screws into the block in the front passenger side,
