Default need help engine guys

The 200,000 mile, tired 302 in my '91 hatch has just about seen it's day. I'm not to engine savy, but after a little research I found a combo I like and now that I've saved the money, I just want to get some opinions on it.

I plan to start with a TRE Performance 306 shortblock
TREperformance.com - Ford 306 Short Blocks

Up top I would like to go with AFR heads part# 1472
JEGS High Performance - 033-1472

Roller rockers, BBK SSI manifold and an F303 cam.
Any estimats on what kind of power this combo could make?

Not really interested in going 351 or anything like that.

thanks for any info guys!

i'm not familiar with company thats supplying the short block.....

head are ok......

the bbk manifold ......JMO junk

i'd opt for a edlebrock or trick flow......

and the ford alphabet cam you do so much better
take a look at comp or lunatti....

as far as horsepower guesstimate on the combo

245-260 rwhp.......

if the shortblock comes with a warranty, you can't really go wrong there. if not, look for one that does.

for a mostly street car that isn't going to see much track time, those heads are about the best you can buy. but with a good aftermarket intake and aftermarket, free-flowing exhaust, you'll probably be better off with the AFR 185's.

and, as long as you're upgrading to roller rockers, why not get the heads to use stud mounted, adjustable rocker arms instead? there are alot more rocker arm choices and the heads cost less too.

i agree with Reggie about the cam and intake too, those were top-notch parts years ago, but you can do alot better now. try downloading Camquest from COMP Cams - Performance Camshafts, Valve Train, & Much More. it's free and really helps when choosing a cam.

btw, that combo, on fuel injection and with a good tune, should make 325-350hp easy.

Good choices. I just finished upgrading my 'stang. Here are my $0.02:

AFR - good pick. The 185's, as mentioned, are better for obvious reasons. Think of the future and the possibility that you may, one day, want to go bigger; 347, T/C, S/C. If you already have the 185's, you have less to worry about.

TRE perf - I looked at their stuff and decided to go with CHP (Coast High Perf). Got a way better deal (331, forged internals, H beam c.rods, AFR 185's assembled, Scorpion rockers, Comp cam, timing chain, ARP everywhere, Cometic gaskets, and delivery for $5000.00

Intake manifold - I hear that Holley Systemax is the best there is more often than any other intake out there. I forget but there was even an article on it. However, Trickflow and Edelbrock also make good ones too for less. I have the Edelbrock.

Hope it helps....P.
