If it is just the shifter handle buzzing when in gear or nuetral it is simply the harmonics in the
tranny being transmitted up thru the shifter.
You can remove the shifter tower assembly from the transmission and when you do, look down inside, you'll see that the shifter is seated in a plastic cup on the shift rail. This plastic cup wears out over time and doesn't hold the shifter stub tightly anymore like it did when it was brand new. You could try taking a small flat washer and put it down inside the cup and then reseat the shifter stub into the plastic cup. This will "tighten" it up again and likely, eliminate the buzz. If you'd like, I can send you a new plastic cup. I have thousands of them here from TKO's and T45's but I think they were the same cup that was used in the T5.

Remember, it is almost impossible for anyone, myself included, to diagnose a problem over the internet without seeing the car. My advice is simply that, advice based on years of experience. I don't want you or anyone taking my word as gospel. I am trying to give some direction as to what I think may be happening.
