I have a question about tire size. How wide can you go in a 5.0. Will you get in to trouble with the quad shock. Is it alright to take the shock out to make room for a bigger tire. I want to put Welds on my stang for the track. Many people use 8in rims out back. Can you get a 10in in there with no problems. Talon tou run 17s on your car how wire are those. You run a 9.5in tire. That pretty good. You have probably seen the new 10.5 Cobra rims. Those things a fat! Can't fit them under a Fox body though, that really sucks.

Good question Eric! Since it is not directly related to the thread it was posted, I have moved it to a new thread where it would more likely get the appropriate responses. I look forward to learning the answer myself

Eric, I run 17x9 Cobra rims for street use with a 10 inch treadwidth. I took out the quad shocks. Not because I needed to, but because I read they weren't needed. I will be running 16x7 Pony wheels with a 9.5 inch treadwidth for the track. The key, here, is the backspacing. The wider you go, the more backspacing you need. I have the fender flares which add about 2 inches on the over-hang from the fender. This allows even more backspacing without the tires sticking out past the fender. The recommended backspacing is 5 for 10inch and above tires. This pushes the wheels mating surface to the axle further to the inside which in turn pushes the centerline of the tire to the outside of the vehicle keeping the inside edge of the tire away from the fender well and exhaust pipes. HTH,

The widest you can generally go on a 15x8" wheel without getting into trouble with clearance is 275, but you do have to remove the quad shock. I've ran as wide as a 295 on the rear, but wouldn't recommend it.

I had to turn my quad shocks around so that the skinny part is up so that I could run my slicks and my street tires (275-50-15)with stock control arms. But now I have lift bars that do not require quad shocks

I have seen posts on other forums that say you can run 295-315 by using 6.5 backspacing wheels, removing quad shocks, and hammer clearancing the inner surface of the wheelwell.

You can put up to 315 (rear only) with some modifications like trojan stated. Removing the quads, different spacing, and rolling the lip some. One think to keep in mind though is the width of the wheel. You will need a 10 to 11" wheel to put 315s on at min. I don't suggest on standard 9" rims you put over a 275 maybe 285..

A very nice setup for multiple setups street, road course, track is 275 rears and 255 fronts. If you put 275s on front you will notice every little trench in the road and it will pull when you hit them. It seems much less worse with 255 on the front.

So is there any rubbing at all with the 295 or 315 with the 6.5 wheel spacer.
