Default Need help on 4 Cyl to 5.0 Swap

Me and my brother recently purchased a 1990 LX that someone started to convert from 4 cyl to 5.0. I don't think that any of the suspension was done and at the moment we are not to worried about that as we are on a slim budget. what the car dose have is a motor that currently has a carb intake on it but it came with a FI lower intake w/fuel rails and injectors, upper intake w/ throttle body, wiring harness and the intake tube w/mass air flow sensor, but i don't think it came with the V8 computer and we don't know what year the intake manifold and wiring harness was pulled from either. The transmission I believe is a C4 as it has 11 pan bolts and I believe that it has some work done to it as on the bellhousing there is "JD 12/16/96 Street Kit" scribed on it, but do not know if it is any good as the person we bought the car from was not the one who started all of this. It also came with the gas tank and off-road H-pipe, factory style headers. I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me about how much it would cost to get it up and running and drivable with the 4 cyl suspension and rear end?

If the tranny is good you can use it youll need a 157 tooth 50oz flywheel if it has the small bell housing, along w/ a shifter for the c-4. You will also need to hook it into the vacuum tree. At a guess it will probably cost around $1000 if the parts you have already are good. there is a sticky at the top of this section for the swap. Your rear suspension would work but the front needs better springs. I dont remember what rear it came w/ as a 4 cyl so you may need to swap that too.

The C4's pan is almost square, the AOD will have that stamped into the pan, and a C6 is huge. You should be able to tell which it is this way. No telling what that scribe is supposed to mean through a post.
Also can't tell how much to get it up and running, more info about the car would be needed first, maybe even a picture.

Ok... After reading about 18 pages of the sticky post on the swap, im still stumped...

Me and my brothers situation is unique because we are only wanting a running mustang, I think everyone can appreciate that...

We have a 90 Lx that had a 4 in it. We bought it mid conversion, we found it online, went and looked and bought it for $550! It already has a 5.0 mounted in it, a C4 automatic in the trunk, yes, were keeping it an auto right now. Besides the Computer, what other things do we need to change in the car to have it running well?

I know your supposed to change out the suspension but were not worried about that right now, we just want to get it running, we have most of the FI parts already (check the pics). We have the drive shaft, will the exsiting shaft work? PLEASE HELP US OUT! Anyone with knowledge on the automatic transmission 5.0 swap.

We could take the easy way out and go Carb but we dont want to...

Any Suggestions?

how do we install the C4 w/ the stock shifter and can anyone tell us which bellhousing we have from the pictures and if the flexplate is the 50oz? So to get the car running with what we have is all that is needed a computer? and which computer should we get the A9L or what? What needs to be done to just get it running and drivable WITHOUT changing the Suspension and Rear end????

Basically pre-81 302s have the 'early' imbalance of 28 oz.-in. If the 302 is 82 and later it will be 50 oz.-in. imbalance. WARNING: rotating parts such as the damper, flywheel, and crank cannot be mixed between the two systems without having the entire reciprocating assembly rebalanced.

Bellhousing: This depends on the transmission your are using but the 4 basic ones are the standard transmission bellhousing for a T5, standard transmission for the SROD or Toploader 4-speed, the auto bellhousing for a C4, and the auto bellhousing for the AOD. Other combos are different still such as the Tremec. The best way is to get the bellhousing with the tranny if possible. Remember that for a stick and quarter mile time faster than 12.00 seconds most tracks require a scatter shield or blowproof bellhousing.

since you are going with the c4 the A9L will be fine.....

Thanks for the info but the person we purchased the car from wasn't the person who started the mod's and knew very little info about the car. So we don't know what year the block is or what year the wiring harness is either. Is there any way to tell what year the block is? So does anyone know how to make the stock shifter work with the C4 trans???
