All kinds of problems will arise, the starter probably wouldn't work, sensors and other electronics. Basically, you need to have it, the electrical systems are either grounded to the body or the engine and both grounds are needed.

basically my car wont start. and it will only turn over when its being jumped.

Yup, that'll happen if you have a ground problem. If it does run, you'll have other problems as well.
