Default Distributor Cap Crud = Bad Wires?

I was told that the buildup under the distributor cap is a sign of spark plug wires that are on their way out (giving a lot of resistance). It kinda makes sense, since only 3 or 4 of the terminals under the cap have the crud, and the others just show a little tint. I replaced the cap and rotor recently only to find it doing the same thing.

Anyone else know about this?

I honestly havn't heard this, but it does make since. Replace one of the spark plug wires that has the buildup on it and see if that helps any.
