Default My 351 Swap Dilemna

I have been reading over old posts in the forums about 351 swaps, and have found very few people with my situation, so I'll post.

My car is already mildly armed with a full H/C/I/G setup. Its a 1995 GT 5 speed. Its got a ton of bolt-ons, and it is very rewarding to stomp the gas pedal.

But I want more, and have been seeing a lot of people saying that the 351 swap is not a hard thing to do at all!

The main 302 parts I have are:

Windsor Jr heads
Explorer Upper/Lower
E303

If I found an inexpensive 351 rotating assembly and block, purchased those, and slapped my HCI combo onto the 351, would I see an increase in performance? I know those parts would choke the 351 cubic inches beyond belief, but I'd gain a **** load of torque, wouldn't I? That alone would make a swap worth it to me, also considering my potential has just grown exponentially.

One of the biggest notes that held me back from immediately jumping on a 351 is the hood. The hood situation alone could cost up to $1000 dollars just to buy the hood and have it paint matched. That would throw my 351 dream out the door, but, I've read about smaller motor mounts that allow the 351 to fit under the stock hood. To make this project work, the 352 MUST fit under the stock hood. Am I dreaming?

Here is the car now:

You need more than the hood, you will have to get 351 headers or modify the ones you have, you also need a 351W lower intake.

But theres more, you need the oil pan, the crank damper (50oz), the accesory brackets, timing chain cover, distributor, and a few more things.

It is not really a "bolt-on" deal, and not inexpensive.

I beleive Steeda sells the complete "Cobra R" kit with all the parts needed (you provide the engine).

I would recommend purchasing the book, "SVT Mustang Cobra Recognition Guide," by O.J. Coletti

This book includes a unique parts list for both the Cobra & Cobra Rs.

BTW- You will not be able to fit the engine under the stock hood.

in an sn95 body your front accessories will work with no other modifications, you will need headers, lower intake and you will need a hood.351 is 1 1/2 inches taller and even if you run solid drop down mounts they will only lower the engine 3/4 of an inch.

I also forgot as mentioned earlier you will need another oil pan and also distributor, and the stock radiator will not provide enough cooling either so you will have to go with a larger 2 core radiator like fluidyne or steeda's
