Default Copper Header Gaskets. How to make them not leak?

I have BBK unequals and I have previously blown the paper gaskets. I now have decided to try out the copper ones since they will not blow out. Well I really cant get the old paper gasket off so my copper gasket leaks pretty good making itself really annoying. So what do you adivse I use to make a seal that doesnt leak? Header Sealent? Will that stuff work? HELP!!!

Ace hardware sells this stuff called Tough Job Remover. It took the powder off an upper intake like magic. Your gasket doesnt stand a chance. A razor doesnt affect it?

This is a bad thing to do. I've seen people really screw up a set of headers and/or heads. They have sanded too hard in one or two areas making an un-even surface making it harder then before to seal things up

There are special "plastic" wheels that will clean crap down to metal, including rust.

If the flange is clean and in good shape, a metal type gasket, especially at the collector, will seal and will not blow out. That is their greatest advantage.
