Default temp gauge problem

It appears my temp gauge is not working, or at least not getting a reading from the sensor. When you turn the ignition on the gauge goes to the bottom and stayes there, even after the engine has been on and warmed up. I'm ready to buy a new sensor, but is there anything else i can try before that?

thanks
Dan

Just check the sender wiring.

BTW..you dont need a new SENSOR (temp sensor is for the EEC) you need the gauge SENDER.
Located in the lower intake / drivers side /front .

Thanks for the info, i'll check the wiring. I was looking at that the other day, and it appears to be alittle corroded at the connection point.

thanks

GTRaptor is right. You need to replace that sending unit at the front driver's side of your intake manifold. It has one wire going to it and costs about $5. Mine recently went out in my 89 and had the same symptoms as you, replaced the sender and it works normally now.

If you don't drain some of the anti-freeze, you'll get some pouring out of the hole the sending unit came out of.
