Default 87-89 Mustang runs with ignition switch off

This is a problem I have run into on several 5.0 1987-89 Mustangs that have come in, it's possible this could be a problem on earlier models and later models and even 4 bangers. I have had Mustangs come in with engine running ignition switch off (this is not due to dieseling). The problem lies in the ignition circuit and acts like the poles/contacts are stuck in the solenoid. I have replaced the solenoid, the ignition switch, and the cables and sometimes either one of these or all do the trick but sometimes (more than not) the problem returns. Has anyone heard or had this problem ?? It seems to me that this is a common problem but I haven't seen anything posted up on the boards here and figured it was something that should be addressed. Any pointers/ideas/info ???

its a very common problem with the 5.0's and even a lot of other fords, the design doesn't hold up well...

from the few that i have replaced, i find that making sure the back of the solenoid has a good ground is crucial...

i even went so far on the most recent one i installed as to connect a grounding wire to the mounting screw to ensure it has a good connection (that one is still going strong 6 months later)...

replacing the other components that can affect the system is good, too, but in my experience a poor ground makes the problem return again and again

Just something as simple as grounding the solenoid huh ?? Wow, I thought it was something in the actual wiring in the ignition circuit breaking down or shorting out. Good info but nothing other than what we discussed like the solenoid (grounding included), solenoid to starter cable, and ignition switch itself that's also problematic ??
