Default 1990 Mustang GT instrument cluster light dont work

Since I got the car, the instrument cluster lights havn't been working right. I realized that is must be a loose connection like a loose ground cuz they light up sometimes and sometimes dont. I then figure out that it had to do with a group of wires that are cut that are hanging from under the dash on the passenger side. I'm assuming some of those wires belonged to the stock radio/stereo that is no longer there. Anyways, I noticed that if I wiggled those group of cut wires around, the light on the dash were flickering on and off. So I was thinking that it had to do with something in those wires. My question is though, were is the ground located that is responsible for the illumination of the instrument cluster?

Does anybody know specifically what what wires would cause the lights not to light up? Like what certain wires, if they're were not connected probably would cause the lights not to be on. Even the illumination lights for the heater, a/c, and fan contols are off. Any help

Hey poloreme any luck finding your problem? My 91 is doing the same thing. Somebody told me to change the ground strap from the firewall to the engine but that didn't work. I think tomorrow I'm gonna try taking apart the cluster, checking for bad bulbs, & loose wires

I had to replace the dimmer switch on my 90 LX. I hear those go out all the time and it's really common. When mine went out, the guage lights didn't work or the lights behind the a/c and heater knobs. $10 for one from a salvage and about 15 minutes to replace and all is well, now if i could just figure out the wires for my map light. They weren't hooked up when i got the car.

My guess would be just a bad dimmer switch thats what mine was.

Smack it around a little bit. Sometimes it works. My fuse went out for the instrument cluster. No dash lights or running lights. Take a look at the car at night (with headlights on) and see if the corners are lit as well. If they arent its the fuse.
