Ok, heres the deal. I got a 89 GT convertible and everyone trys to tell me that it weights hundreds of pounds more than an LX... Well I took it to a scale with my buddy and his 89 LX, and we also took a 03 mustang.. heres the results...
1989 Mustang GT Convertible
(with heavy bandpass subbox in trunk)- 3380
1989 Mustang LX Hatchback - 3320
2003 Mustang GT Hardtop - 3300
Im just wondering if you guys have weighed your cars at a weigh station and figured your weights out..
they were alll manuals, all had about a half tank of gas...i also got the 92 chrome pony rims on my car too, im not sure if that changes weight from the stock turbines, the 89 LX has the stock 10 holes and the 03 has the stock torque thrust looking 17s
That does seem strange becuase the Mustang Convertible is supposed to be much heavier than even the hatchback model. In your case you are finding the GT Convertible to just a little heavier than the same year LX Hatchback. Not sure whats up with that but would sure love to know.

Those are pretty much ball park weights for the vert. Mine is a '93 lx 5.0 aod and weighs 3297lbs without me in it. The reason they are more heavy is the added gussets and braces to reduce body flex. No roof equals much more flex. That's why it's a good idea to get a k-member (g-load brace) and subframe connectors.
I think your GT was on a diet at one time. The LX is heavy compared to stock. Do they all have A/C? How many aftermarket parts are one the cars? Too many factors dictate weight.

1992 LX, thanks to Chicane Sport Tuning and some friends.. it is now wrapped with new graphics and ready to hit the streets AGAIN!!!!
All the cars pretty much have is bolt ons, stock long blocks, they all are sticks and had about the same gas in em.. the truth is convertibles arnt much heaviers, maybe 60 pounds.
My 1989 lx 5.0 hatchback weighs 3000 even. That's without AC, air pump, rear seat, spare tire jack, etc, and with aluminum heads. At the track, the scale said 3170, and I'm 170, so 3000 even. Soon to come off:front sway bar, and all interior insulation.

Way to go REG! DUN-DUN-DUN! And the end result.... Weigh your car! Could have missing parts, xtra parts, fat guy/girl driving, scale off, 100# of BS somewhere stacked up!
