You will probably need new valve springs. And the cam isnt going to do much good with stock heads. And you MAY have piston to valve contact?

i know the the cam the fire order is 1,5 something not the HO if i try the HO firing order it runs like crap and idles like crap
i checked the block numbers and heads and everything comes back as a roller motor
im getting a gt40/explorer intake
as far as heads what should i get iron explorer
or look for something else
what about throttle body is 70mm with a c&l inlet ok
i know ill have to do injectors and stuff down the line
i just want it to run ok with better performance after the cam swap
untill i buy the other parts and install them

trust me ive tried it a hundred times back and forth
HO firing order barely runs and intake backfire
old firing order and ill burn the tires through 4th gear
sucks that previous owner spent money to put a earlier model cam in

With a letter cam it should be the 1 3 7 2 6 5 4 8 firing order also with that cam you should have to put stronger spings, also you should check your piston to valve clearance. You should get a better intake then the explorer because it is better for higher rpm i believe, you could also need longer pushrods.

yeah your pistons and cam will be fine but if he installed a flat tap cam with flat lifters, you will need to change to hydraulic roller lifters and change pushrods or you will not only make contact but destroy your entire setup. as for the firing problem, try taking the plug out of the distributor, set the timing and reinstall the chip to the distributor, with all the wiring hooked up correctly 351 firing order you should be smooth sailing.

If it ran good with the 154 firing order, I cant see it. The injector firing sequence would be way off. With the injectors firing on the 137 order and the cam firing 154 order, see what im getting at. You better hope he didnt rewire the injectors to run with the 154 cam. It would run like that, but the 02's readings and compensations would be off.

ok thanx for the info so far
i heard i may need dog bones (i dont know what those are)
i just got a c&l inlet pipe with 76mm maf and 19#diaphram thingy
i also am picking up tomorrow a 70mm bbk tb and edelbrock performer 2 intake both upper and lower
that should all work right???
my next step is to change out the factory headers
and start saving and figuring out what kind of heads to buy in 6 months
i heard edelbrock makes some with a 1.90 valve that should keep it from hitting
is this a good setup
so basicly next week my mods would be
x303 cam
edelbrock rpm 2 black intake
bbk 70mm tb with egr plate
electric fan
bbk offroad h pipe with flowmasters
underdrive pulleys
stage 1 clutch with steed quadrant
and at a later date funds allowing headers and afr or edelbrock heads

?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????

If the cam is in fact a flat tappet. You will need the dog bones and spider tray for the conversion.
