Default Anyone KNOW ?? 1985 Mustang GT Conv 4v ho 5sp w/ cobra emblem ?? STOCK ?

Hello, New to this board..looks like the place to find all the answers to my questions. 85 gt Conv. 5sp 4v HO

1. On the fenders and above the 5.0 emblem is a red white and blue emblem with a cobra. would it be stock ?? ..I am thinking no. But I really don't know. This is on my just purchsed 85 gt Conv. 5sp 4v HO
I have also had 86 - 90 5.0's except 87 never seen it one before.

Also, The 85 is a California Car. Is there extra smog garbage on there and where should I look ?? Thanks

Default doubt it's stock

I've never seen that, and I doubt it's stock. However, you've got a great car there. There's not many of these (85 gt conv) around, never were. I ordered one from the factory in April of 85, In August, the dealer called me to offer the 86... As I recall, there was a strike at the factory where the tops went on, and they missed a production run of V8s. Then there was a truck drivers strike late that summer, and although cars had been shipped to the dealers via rail, they couldn't get them from yards. I believe the dealer finally had the car for me around the first week of September, 1985. 85 was the last year of the 4V. I drove that thing for 15 years. Loved that car. Congrats, I wish I still had mine.

The base timing is set to a different spec. for the Calif. 5.0 HO.

Calif. engines: 10* BTC with distributor vacuum hose disconnected and plugged

Non-Calif. engines: 12* BTC with dist. hose discon. and plugged

These specs are for manual trans. cars, there's 3 different specs for timing on Calif. auto trans. 5.0s. and 2 for non-Calif. auto trans.

1985 was a big year for all kinds of different emissions calibrations and it would probably take a bit of research to find the differences.

As for the Cobra, there's no mention in any of my engine specs about a Cobra engine. It is a nice emblem, but unless I missed something during all these years, there was no Cobra in 1985.

Those Cobra emblems are not "stock".

There was a "Cobra" in '85. All GTs in Canada, from '84 through '92,were marketed as, sold as, and called Cobra GT. They were nothing more than a GT with a "Cobra" sticker on the hatchback liftgate or convertible trunk lid.

I've never seen that emblem either but this thread is 5 years old. Wonder whatever happened to the guy.

I was searching the forums and I came across this. I feel like a loser for not following up on it A.D.D at it's best. I sold that car like 2 years later.I then bought an 85 Capri 5sp t-tops. Had to sell that last year needed $$ I had a tough winter.
I just bought a 93 Gt with a drippy slush box. .. I don't post much mostly I search and read. I do want to say thanks to all the contributers to this board. I would be lost without you all. So Thanks
Here's what the 85 Vert looked like when I got rid of it. Then the 85 Capri and finally my newest 93 Gt Combined I paid $4000 for all of these.
They all needed TLC and without these forums it would have been near impossible to get them right. So thank you all so much for your help.

87-up cars only had 5.0 badges.

GT badges 79-86 behind doors.

Only the '85 and '86 GT had "GT" embossed in the bodyside molding that was behind the front doors.
