Check Engine light code (67) 1990 Mustang GT

The check engine light has been on for a while so i had it checked and it popped up 2 codes. One was the map sensor, so i replaced it and the other is a code 67. According to the haynes manuel there are 2 code 67's: Neutral drive switch or circuit, or Air conditioner clutch switch circuit. The issue that i am having is when i turn on my ac while either driving or sitting at idle the battery gauge and oil pressure gauge start to drop to almost the very bottom, and the idle starts to spike, then return to normal, then spike, then turn to normal. I have a 1990 GT if that helps out. If anyone has had this problem, or knows how to fix these things could you please help me out!!! Thank you in advance for any replys that you submit, and thanx for the help.

Since it was a KOEO code, its more than likely cause the KOEO test was ran while the car in gear. If the test wasn't ran with the car in gear, then its probably the Clutch pedal switch. Code 67 will cause idle issues like you are getting. Also code 67 will not allow the KOER test to run

There are two types of codes.

KOEO- Key On Engine Off

KOER- Key On Engine Running

Run the test and see if the code shows back up.

i felt like an azz after i posted that reply. i got to thinking about it and figured it out. quick question though, it says that after checking the codes with the engine off that it will pause and then spit out the code(s) that have been stored in the computer. You think i need to do that also, or just check it with the engine running? sorry for the questions, ive only owned the car for a month now. Its my new play toy after my ford focus turbo project went a little south. Any way thanks again for the help.

What you can do is start the KOEO test, as soon as the codes start to flash, remove the scanner or test light. Turn the key off, this should clear codes. Then run the KOEO and KOER test. Some codes won't show in the KOEO that will show in the KOER test

After you clear codes a test drive needs to be done first. 15-20 minutes should suffice. Then run the KOER and KOEO

im confused on this whole topic i have a code 67 but my car doesnt start without the clutch in so doesnt that mean the switch is working? also i hear you cant run the koer with a code 67 and i ran it several times and got codes, so i have to ask am i supposed to run the koeo with the clutch depressed and is this the reason im gettin the code 67 i have the a/c removed from the vehicle but the idle does surge mildly with the iac unplugged

Is the transmission in gear when you ran the KOEO codes? Are you sure its not a memory code?

And just so you know, Code 67 has nothing to do with starting the car with the clutch depressed. The switch on the clutch pedal is actually two switches in one. One for Starter engagement, and one to let the computer know if the trans is in Neutral or In Gear.

So it is possible the switch on the clutch pedal is bad for the computer but good for starting , I get ya now , no the car was in neutral when I started code testing but the clutch wasn't in I was curious if that would trip the code but if not, is the code 67 telling me the clutch pedal sensor is bad? I've seen a video of a guy showing the rolling surge on a 5 liter and he uses a paper clip to jump the plug and as soon as he does the idle smooths right out

Once again are you sure its not a memory code? Does the code 67 show up in the first set of codes or after the second set?

The clutch doesn't have to be held down to run the KOEO codes unless the NGS switch on the trans is bad. What you can try though is holding the clutch down and keeping it down while you do a KOEO test. See if that code doesn't show back up. That would point to the NGS. But normally if you have code 67 then you can't run the KOER codes. So........

so its seeming to be a memory code or possibly the switch on the pedal

a 67 code can also mean that something in the a/c circuit is not working. Your having a surging idle problem?
