Default 1989 Mustang GT, Exhaust question

I installed pypes tailpipes and passenger side is almost touching one of the metal fuel lines, is that going to be a problem I know gas is flammable and is a stupid question but didnt know if that tailpipes get really hot or not. Thanks

Yes, they get hot. Whether they get hot enough to detonate fuel- I don't believe so, but I wouldn't want to test that. The real problem here is that if your install is hitting your fuel lines, there is a chance they could be hitting something else too. I am refering to wiring that could easily become fused by the heat of your pipes. If you throw an ABS light, you can rest assured that you have melted the connections to your ABS module- which, incidentally, is located in that general area. I know this from experience. If I were you I would reposition your tailpipe, as you run the risk of more problems than blowing up your car. Rewiring an electrical system is very expensive.

Edit- I just noticed that you posted in the fox body section. I answered your question thinking it was an S197. Still, I would check to make sure you aren't hitting any wiring.

Well, its good about there being no wiring along the pipe route. Best thing I can think of, if you can't move the pipe, is to try to insulate the pipe from where it comes into close contact with the fuel line. Maybe with some kind of heat resistant material. Either that, or maybe get a different set of hangars that secure the mufflers a tad lower. I'm really surprised Pypes made a kit specific to your car that makes such a shoddy fit.

You should be able to move the tailpipe around slightly, that's common for newly installed pipes to need tweaking in position. You should be able to get a little more clearance if you move it around.
