my steering has alot of 'feedback' from the road, such as going over bumps, and the pulley is pretty noisy, not like bad bearing noisy just noisy. how do i know when i need a new power steering pump?

well if you get a constant whine even when its full of fluid, if it gets harder to turn than before, or the most obvious, cracks, leaks etc. mostly its in the performance. A lot of aftermarket pumps are just the pump and you have to switch resivoirs so if thats whats got a hole, make sure the new one has it or find one that does.

well it doesn't whine when turning like it would with low fluid, the fluid is full.

Usually p/s pumps last forever. All Ford pumps eventually whine. But i'll tell you one thing, if the p/s fluid has turned from pink to a dark brown or mud looking colour, then I would suspect that the rack housing is due for a replacement as well as the pump at the same time.

the fluid is dark. i will check into this, roughly how much is it for a new rack?

$299.99 retail at most parts stores. Fenco is a good brand but there are better ones.
