Get an electric sender model. That is the only way you will be able to do it without mounting it outside the dash on the hood area. You simply cannot have a fuel line run that far without looking ghetto, being inaccurate, or unsafe.
It's worth it. I have one and it's very high quality. Buy it new. I have seen some older ones pop up in classified sections cheap.
DO NOT BUY USED!!!
Autometer had one a year and a half ago for about $100. I bought it, what a deal. Six months later the sending unit exploded and torched the whole top of the engine. I callled Summit to get a new sending unit and was told to call Autometer directly. I was told the part was no longer available and I would have to buy a new guage at $200+.
I gave them the part # for what I had and told them my story. The man "remembered" there was a recall on them. I sent in the old guage and they sent out the new one.
