Default Switch car to auto, do i need a new computer?

I have a t5 now & want to go to an AOD, do I need a different computer for my 86 lx 5.0l?

No you can keep the stock computer, it'll run fine.

It would be best if you got the automatic computer because there's different parameters between the two.

I did some research on this yesterday.

It'll work but not recommended due to more aggressive timing @ lowers RPMs (think it was in the 1500s) with the auto computer.

I wish you lived closer... I'd trade my auto setup for your five speed setup.

You've got it backwards chief you can run a aod with a 5 speed computer , not vice versa. With a 5 speed and an aod computer you'll need to change the O2 sensor harness to a manual one, or disconnect the neutral switch circuit, because the auto harness grounds the circuit, and the manual one doesn't.

no Buck,,an AOD EEC will work with a 5 speed. a 5 speed EEC wont hold a idle in gear with break on,,on a aod trans, its not programed for more fuel, open butterfly more,ETC. when you come to a stop. ask me how i know?? an A9P EEC is a AOD EEC ,A9L is a 5 speed EEC. a A9P aod EEC will actually work better on a 5 speed than a 5 speed EEC.better as in you get a better throttle response with an aod eec in a 5 speed car than you would with a A9L. ask me how i know? and i sure in the hell hope your a brother native like myself to be calling me chief.,you wouldnt call me n***ga if you are white and im not would you ??

Okey dokey uhh should I call you slim? Honestly it doesn't have to boil down to that so chill the hell out. I can ask you how you know all I want, and I can tell you simply that I know cause I have done the same thing, yes the 5 speed comp will not exactly idle up like the auto comp. Yes the auto comp is good on a 5 speed IF you get an O2 harness out of an aod car because of the above reason. Does his comp render it useless for his app? No.
