i see some gt40/explorer intakes on ebay and craiglist
would i see a horsepower gain with my stock heads (i plan on geting gt40 heads later with a mild cam)
was hoping for 10 hp gain with my mods
and would i lose any torque

that's a good swap , 98 and up lower intakes need to have the temperature sending unit hole drilled.Unless you mount it in the air box.The lower intake should be ported/polished
Gt-40 intakes are known for having real good torque. If you don't plan on pushing your car into the higher RPM's it would be one of the best intakes for you. TMOSS has some good articles about the Gt-40 intake after reading them I change my mind from a trick flow intake to a cobra. I know my car will never go past 5500 RPM's because it is just a street car.
That intake will be a good swap, even with stock heads you'll be better off. You shouldn't lose any torque but it'll come alive once you get better heads.
